ACT SIGs

This is a list of ACT Interest Groups that we know of in Australia and New Zealand. They are groups for professionals only and are not open to members of the general public. Their purpose is to serve as a form of ongoing learning and support, and/or peer supervision. If you would like your group listed below, please let us know. This list is provided for information only, groups have not been vetted by ANZ ACBS, and inclusion on this list does not represent endorsement by ANZ ACBS.

New Zealand ACT SIGs

Dunedin ACT Interest Group

For details, contact David Mellor david@mellor.co.nz or Helen McCotter hmccotter@mirrorservices.org.nz. The Southern ACT Interest Group currently meets on the second Wednesday of the month from 4-5pm (although that time could be extended soon) in Room 9 on the 3rd floor of Wakari Hospital Main Block.  There is a considerable range of training and experience within the group (from none to 10+ years).  The group continues to adapt to the needs of its members. It is most useful if you have at least read a book or two about ACT or (better still) done a workshop.  We include conversations and presentations but our most recent focus has been on experiential practice and role-plays, questions from members and sharing of ideas as well as case discussion.  Practitioners, researchers and students of all levels are welcome.

Wellington ACT Interest Group

For further information please contact Ben Sedley bensedley@yahoo.com or Giselle Bahr psychology@bahr.net.nz. This group meets on the first Monday of the month, 6- 7pm, in the CBD. Each group begins with a mindfulness exercise and then is followed by a presentation / discussion led by a different volunteer each month. Presentations may be a clinical case or a chapter / concept summary. All welcome regardless of level of training or experience in ACT.

Otautahi ACT Interest Group

Contact Kathryn Whitehead at Kathryn.whitehead@cdhb.health.nz or  ph 03 337 7939. This group meets the last Thursday of each month, at the Mothers and Babies Service at The Princess Margaret Hospital, 91 Cashmere Road, Cashmere, Christchurch NZ. We meet for 1.5 hours, from 3.30pm to 5pm. The group’s focus is on fostering ACT skills, knowledge and capacities in the Otautahi/Christchurch area, with some outreach to the rest of the upper South Island (for yearly study days and visits to our group). The group alternates between a session focussed on experiential practice of a core process/ACT focus and some case supervision, and a more theoretical or research-focussed topic based around a journal paper. Those who are using ACT in some way with their clients, and/or have read several introductory books or attended a workshop, are welcome to join this group.
